How does one ‘live their truth?’
I talk a lot about “authenticity.” But what does that mean exactly?
The concept of “authenticity” is a loaded one.
We strive to be authentic and genuine, but often don’t know what that means to us.
Speaking, living and sharing my truth appears to me as:
Listening to music that sparks emotion within me, no matter what that emotion, or how well-liked the artist. As long as it resonates, I listen to it.

Doing things from the heart—even if they seem rash or irrational. Giving your last couple of dollars to someone who needs it, dancing in the mirror, sticking up for someone you may not know, buying the random jewelry piece you see at the thrift store, turning down the wrong road on purpose as a sort of scenic detour, etc. You never know where or when these paths and detours might lead you somewhere completely magical, or when the completely ordinary feels magical on any given day.
Speaking from the heart—even if it means speaking differently to different people! Certain personalities jive with different shifts in dialect and conversations.
Keeping friends by my side who I feel comfortable just being with…true authenticity to me involves having others in your circle who teach you how your truth feels to you.
Not judging myself for feeling uncomfortable feelings that don’t seem to align with my integrity or “truth.” At the end of it all, we’re human, which is authentic and genuine in itself.
Not editing my words to fit the mold of others—as much as I have different types of conversations with different types of people—those people all bring out different aspects of me.
Encouraging myself and others to do the deep self-work—the thinking, the dissecting, the feeling, the darkest depths of shadow-work that people, including myself, aren’t often accustomed to.
Collecting trinkets and tchotchkes that have little importance until I make them my own.
Setting up “altars” on every shelf, every room, every windowsill…
Not feeling bad about what my body and mind crave…just listening.
Ultimately, all of these things…these notions and practices even—they mean something to me.
Maybe they mean something to you too, and that’s the beauty of it!
Finding the things authentic to you, and possibly sharing that authenticity, so maybe it will resonate with someone else.
That’s precisely what “sharing your truth” means.
